Wow thanks for that Roger - so is it available now on video? - it's obviously got something quite good in it for so many people to like it for that long -- I think I'd be lost having to go through the sound the same way you did - computers now make things alot easier but I don't think that's always for the best --- thanks for going to the effort of writing all that out -- maybe some other people might like to add something, or have some memories of it
Thanks

I just watched Jett Benny for the first time on Saturday. I loved it and was planning to ask Roger for the same background info. that he just posted in this thread. I have always been a Jack Benny fan and an admirer of campy comedy also. My wife watched with me, she was curious as to how I ran across it and why I decided to purchase it. After we finished watching I told her it was shot in Super8 and at first she didn't beleive me. I guess after watching some of MY crap she assumed that everything filmed in Super 8 is that bad :-). Thanks for the info. Roger. By the way how did you set up the intro and ending scenes that were shot in B&W? You know the ones that looked like the old show where Jett does the introductions etc... . I have been considering doing a parody of those old 50's variety shows for a while now and you got the look down pretty well I think. Any advice?
THANKS---

Well why not make something else then instead of being a one hit wonder? Ive never heard of it anyway.
You sound like an old fart going on about your past glories, rather than plodding on and on and on and on with new projects.

wageslave,
I have hardly sat idle, as you might suggest. As I said, my other efforts have remained rather obscure, despite my best attempts to be successful. Sorry if I'm a dissappointment to you. I will try my best to have more hits, okay?
As far as going on about past glories, I don't consider "Jet Benny" to be glorious at all and I was requested to post the above information. I didn't jump up on a stump and start waxing nostaligia spontaneously out of ego. In fact, I have never said anything about my past work unless someone has asked.
However, since producing new "hits" seem to be as effortless as you make it, what have you done, lately? Got any distribution deals lined up? If not, then why? It's easy to get movies funded, made and released, isn't it? Come on, let's get those hits moving!
Your tone is a bit insulting and uncalled for, my friend. Beyond that, yes I am an old fart, but my 45 years has taught me that you don't critize others for something that you yourself can't do.

We just shot on Tri-X and kept the camera at eye level on a tripod and wide, which was common to the style of those shows back then. The lighting was pretty flat with a couple of 1000 watt Totes to each side. Nothing fancy.
This is odd:
When my family was traveling though the Smokey mountains years ago, we stopped in an obscure little country grocery store that had a video rack and there was Jet Benny.
The owner saw me looking at it and said,"Dat der's one damned fine movie. Me and da misses watch dat ting all da time! Ever-body 'round dees parts come in heah and rent it most all da time. Dat's my second copy. Plumb wore out da first one."
I told him who I was and he literally called in the neighbors to meet me. It was both flattering and a little scarey. We were treated like celebrities and got free bar-b-cued SOMEthing (I'm not sure what) and I even signed autographs. It was really, really weird.
Glad you like the movie.

Thanks for the reply Roger. I would love to know how it felt to be a hillbilly cult icon. The scene I asked you about really looked aged, like it was shot in the fifties. I wonder how fomo 100 reg 8 would look in a situation like that? I think I may do a test to see.

Jet Benny is listed as being available to buy on Amazon.com but it states that it was made in 1997...is this the same movie?

"Jet Benny" was made in 1984-85 or there abouts. It was released in 1987, the same year I did "Forever Evil" for the distributor. I'm sure it was just a typo in their listing.

Hey Roger - when I was first deciding what format to film in for In My Image (like my economics weren't going to dictate that!) Jet Benny kept coming up a bit in some of the stuff I was reading on Super 8 - but I've found it very hard to find out much information about the film - do you think maybe youcould post a blurb with a bit of the history - and is there a web page or anything too?
It'd be great if you could
Thanks
Scot
